The Castle Island was established in 2007 as an additional tourist facility to the ORTH Castle in the center of the Donau-Auen National Park. On the castle island, characteristic environments, animals, and plants of the floodplain landscape can be experienced and discovered on a circular nature trail. European swamp turtle, local snakes and frogs, European ground squirrel and interesting insects such as solitary bees, beetles, and dragonflies with butterflies are at home here.
