	Mendel University Botanical Garden and Arboretum SOUTH MORAVIA The Botanical Garden and Arboretum is a teaching and purpose-built facility belonging to Mendel University in Brno. It was established in 1938 by Prof. Augustin Bayer, on an area of 2 ha; in 1967, it was extended to its current area of 11 ha. The site is divided into five themed parts. The project was the brainchild of Tiree and Lubomír Chmelar, a married couple from the USA who have long supported and promoted the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape abroad and secured funding for the garden from US foundations.
