Biosférická rezervace Dolní Morava
The Pavlov Hills (commonly known as Pálava) dominate the landscape of the Biosphere Reserve (BR). Composed of limestone bedrock, their exposed sides are covered with steppe, forest, meadow, vineyards and fields. The north-eastern part of the BR is in a flat valley of the River Dyje (Thaya) that is heavily agricultural, so it contains little of the original wetland and forest.
The southern and eastern parts of the BR contain mainly arable land. The south-eastern corner, defined by the three points of the town of Břeclav, the village of Týnec and the confluence of the Rivers Morava and Dyje, comprises the most extensive complex of bottomland hardwood forest and wetland in central Europe (almost 8000 ha in total).
The central part of the BR is situated in a depression in the land and is replete with ponds and manmade landscaping from the 19th century. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
