Museum of Villages of Southeast Moravia

SOUTH MORAVIA

The Museum of Villages of Southeast Moravia was built throughout the 1970s and opened to the public in 1981. Visitors are given access to the folk architecture of Moravian Kopanice, Luhačovice Zálesí and Horňácko; they also get to see buildings and structures for water facilities, viniculture and hay sheds. Podyjí National Park – Šobes Vineyards

SOUTH MORAVIA

In a deep valley where the River Dyje (Thaya) meanders, in the very heart of the Podyjí National Park on the slope of a projection of rock, in one of the oldest and perhaps best wine-growing locations in Europe, lie the Šobes vineyards. Šobes wine owes its excellence to the ideal situation of its vines at low altitude on the sun-drenched southern slope, where they are protected from the wind to the northwest and northeast. Water from the River Dyje, warm days and cool nights, mists, stony, acidic soil on a bed of gneiss,

Regional Museum in Mikulov – Chateau

SOUTH MORAVIA

The chateau at Mikulov and its terraced gardens have a long and complicated history – from fortress to Renaissance residence and Baroque chateau to a time when they almost disappeared. As the chateau has exchanged one style for another, so, too, have the terraces of the gardens – on numerous occasions. The first mention of a garden at the chateau at Mikulov dates to the late 16th/early 17th century. Subsequently, the garden developed from a formal parterre de broderie to a romantic arrangement typical of the 19th century. Until the

Sense Garden at Cave of the Blanik Knights , Rudka

SOUTH MORAVIA

The Cave of the Blanik Knights is a unique work inspired by Czech history, created between 1928 and 1931 by the gifted, self-taught sculptor Stanislav Rolínek and his patron František Burian. In the same period, Burian commissioned the building of the Burian Observation Tower and forest park, the latter of which surrounds the cave. Since 2009, the Cave of the Blanik Knights had included a Sense Garden, originally intended for use by the blind. The garden contains plants and herbs that are interesting to touch and smell and various

Bučovice Chateau

SOUTH MORAVIA

The geometric (formal) garden is in front of the chateau’s west façade. It originated between 1567 and 1575, as part of the walled-in grounds of the chateau. It was first mentioned in writing in 1613. The grounds as a whole testify to the original design of the chateau in the style of the late Italian Renaissance (palazzo in fortezza). They include a Renaissance-style garden, castle walls with bastions and a moat. Unlike most Renaissance chateaux in the Czech Republic, Bučovice is not a remodelling of an older residence such as a
