The herb garden in Valtice originated in 2004. The project was the brainchild of Tiree and Lubomír Chmelar, a married couple from the USA who have long supported and promoted the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape abroad and secured funding for the garden from US foundations. Designed by students at the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, the garden was given a ceremonial opening in 2010. The first wildlife garden in the Czech Republic, it is a splendid place for relaxation and education. Although its teaching beds are mostly made up of medicinal plants, they also contain aphrodisiac herbs, herbs from mythology and legend, herbs used for dyeing, plus others that can be used for aromatherapy or in the kitchen. The garden also has decorative beds, which may serve as inspiration for your own garden. Children are bound to enjoy the sandpit and will like watering the herbs.
