These remarkably well-preserved formal French Baroque gardens are in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape. The harmony is supplemented with pheasants, rose beds and orangeries with an exhibition of Moravian Baroque sculpture with floral decoration. In the heat of summer, shade-giving bowers provide pleasant seating with a view of the gardens. As well as connecting the gardens to the chateau’s pheasantry, the gardens’ symmetrical arrangement and vistas link them at the centre with a hunter’s gazebo and grotto and the chateau’s newly-established nursery garden, which contains an abundance of flower beds, old fruit cultivars, espalier fruit trees in weird and wonderful shapes, and vegetable beds with interesting combinations of colours and shapes. The nursery is home to permanent commercial exhibitions of perennials and witches’ brooms.
